2019-2020
Linfield Theatre's
100th Anniversary Season

Creating Theatre Magic Since 1920

2020年欧冠联赛赛程This centennial season reflects our dual interest in exploring the past and future of theatre and in delving into the pressing social issues of today. Several of these texts are adaptations of venerable narratives envisioned by young playwrights who will shape the theatre landscape for decades to come. The themes present in these performances relate to government and politics as well as domestic family dynamics. We look forward to sharing this artistic work with you and, together, exploring the frontiers of theatricality while celebrating 100 seasons of Linfield Theatre!

Measure for Measure
by William Shakespeare
in a modern verse translation by Aditi Kapil
Directed by Janet Gupton

In the aftermath of the Senate Judiciary Committee hearings for then–judge Brett Kavanaugh, social media erupted with the following quotation from Measure for Measure, in which a man uses his power to coerce a woman to have sex with him: “Who will believe thee, Isabel? […] Say what you can, my false o’erweighs your true.” With the rise in accusations against prominent men for sexual abuse, the phrase “believe women” gives the themes of Measure for Measure new resonance.

Doctor Voynich and Her Children
by Leanna Keyes
Directed by Stephanie Mulligan '14

Playwright Leanna Keyes draws from Bertolt Brecht’s foundational play Mother Courage and Her Children and asks what women’s rights will look like in “the near future, God help us.” As Doctor Voynich travels the countryside dispensing medicines, audiences will consider what anti–science policies might do to health care and reproductive rights. A stark presentation of how minorities might be treated if the government continues to erode protections for equal treatment, Doctor Voynich 2020年欧冠联赛赛程is both a reimagining and a warning.
